CUSC Veo Film Review

Film is meant to be a tool for us to highlight our success and repeat them while identifying our weaknesses and working to improve them.  Both of these perspectives are equally important.

When watching film and answering questions related to yourself or your position, if you are not in the game, analyze the player who is in the position you play most as though it is you.

Don’t be afraid to highlight something you did well — it’s important to note so you can repeat it!

Welcome the identification of your weaknesses — it’s important if you’re going to improve!

Critique constructively — yourself and your teammates.

Value feedback — from your coach, your teammates, and yourself.

Invest in your game and you will be a better player today than you were yesterday!

Film Review — Self Discovery

  • This film session is all about evaluating the QUALITY of our attack. It is important that we have QUALITY in our attack when we advance the ball. Quality is displayed in many ways — proper shape, weight of passes, changing the point, possession, decision making, conversion rate from outside areas (how many times a ball that is played wide makes it back to the middle for a chance at goal), shots on goal, midfield presence, power behind our shots, creating GOOD shots, etc. Look for moments where we displayed QUALITY in our attack and note THREE moments in your response. ** Be sure to include the time stamps and player names for all THREE moments you are noting. ** ——— For example, you could write, “At 7:08, Judah played wide to Bradley who drove down and beat the outside back, eventually finding Jordan in the middle for a tap in goal. When we play wide and use our technical ability and pace to get around players, we create a lot of quality chances.”
  • Looking at this clip, do you see any moments where we missed an opportunity to create a quality attacking chance? Which players could have done what in order to support our attack and help us create a chance on goal? ** Be sure to include the time stamps and player names for all THREE moments you are noting. ** - - - For example, you could write, “1. At 13:52 I think we should have played the ball wide to Jason because he was in a good position out wide where he could receive the ball and attack the near post to create a scoring opportunity. If we play that ball to Jason, Tristen could overlap, Judah can make the forward run, Cullen and Ray can make central supporting runs, and Cameron makes the far post run — this is how we ensure we have options and support in and around the box.”
